Το Υπουργείο Επισιτισμού ιδρύθηκε με το Νομοθετικό Διάταγμα 31 της 13ης Μαΐου 1941 «Περί μετονομασίας του Υφυπουργείου Αγορανομίας εις Υπουργείον Επισιτισμού» (ΦΕΚ Α΄ 164/14.5.1941). Αποτελεί τον διάδοχο του Υφυπουργείου Αγορανομίας (1938-1941) και αντικαταστάθηκε από το Υπουργείο Εφοδιασμού και Διανομών στις 18 Οκτωβρίου 1944.
