Η Εφορία εν Αθήναις επί των προσφύγων χριστιανών συστάθηκε το 1860 με αφορμή αρχικά την περίθαλψη χριστιανών προσφύγων από τη Συρία που αργότερα επέκτεινε τη δράση της και σε χριστιανούς πρόσφυγες που προέρχονταν από εδάφη της Οθωμανικής Αυτοκρατορίας.
