Λόγιος, δημοσιογράφος και πολιτευτής, δήμαρχος Αθηναίων (1887-1891). Ασχολήθηκε με την έκδοση της εφημερίδας Αιών. Υπήρξε μέλος πολλών πνευματικών ιδρυμάτων της Αθήνας και πρώτος πρόεδρος της Ιστορικής και Εθνολογικής Εταιρείας της Ελλάδος.
