Στο κάτω μέρος του χαρακτικού υπάρχει η σημείωση: "Εχθρός γάρ μοι κείνος ομώς Αΐδαο πύλησιν, ός χ' έτερον μεν κεύθη ενί φρέσιν, άλλο δε είπη. Ι.Βενθύλος". Πρόκειται για φράση από την Ιλιάδα του Ομήρου (ραψωδία Ι, στ. 310), όπου ο Αχιλλέας δηλώνει στον Οδυσσέα: "διότι μου είναι μισητός, όσο του Άδ’ οι πύλες, κείνος που κρύβει άλλο στο νου κι άλλο στο χείλος έχει…".
