Biographical history
Ο υποστράτηγος Παναγιώτης Γαργαλίδης (Μεσσήνη, 1870 - Καλαμάτα, 1942) πήρε μέρος σε όλους τους πολέμους από το 1897 έως τη Μικρασιατική Εκστρατεία. Στη διάρκεια της Ουκρανικής Εκστρατείας ήταν διοικητής της β΄ μεραρχίας πεζικού και διακρίθηκε στη διάσωση της συμμαχικής φρουράς Χερσώνας. Το 1922 ήταν διοικητής του Γ΄ Σώματος Στρατού στον Έβρο. Τον Οκτώβριο του 1923 έλαβε μέρος στο φιλομοναρχικό κίνημα του Λεοναρδόπουλου και καταδικάστηκε σε θάνατο χωρίς όμως η ποινή να εκτελεστεί. Αποκαταστάθηκε το 1935.
